Quest Diagnostics Test Code: 3930

This stool lab test looks for the presence of White Blood Cells (WBC) or Leukocytes in a stool sample. White blood cells, which are produced by the body to fight infections, are not typically present in the stool. When white blood cells are present, it can be an indication of conditions such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis. White blood cells can also indicate a bacterial infection such as Shigella, C Diff, Salmonella or Cambylobacter.

This affordable stool lab test is typically ordered when a person has symptoms of Inflammatory Diarrhea such as fever, blood or mucus in the stool, stomach cramping or loose watery stool.

Additional lab tests such as a Stool Culture or Ova and Parasite are often order along with or as a follow up to a WBC Stool Test. If test results are negative but symptoms persist, it may be necessary to retest on a new sample.

This test typically sees results in 1-2 business days.

Requirements

Customers ordering the White Blood Cells, Stool Test should go to the lab to obtain a proper specimen container prior to collection. Refrain from ingesting barium for 7 days before specimen collection.
