Uric Acid, Urine (24-hour)
$59
This uric acid lab test measures Uric Acid levels in a 24-hour urine sample. Uric Acid is produced by the breakdown of cells as they grow old and deteriorate. Most uric acid is filtered by the kidneys and removed from the body in urine. If too much uric acid builds up in the blood it can form into crystals in the joints causing a form of arthritis known as gout. Excess uric acid can also cause the development of kidney stones or cause kidney failure. Impaired kidney function can affect the body’s ability to properly remove uric acid. Elevated uric acid levels can also be caused by conditions which cause an increase in cell breakdown such as certain types of cancer treatment.
A 24 Hour Urine Uric Acid lab test is often ordered when a person has frequent kidney stones or has gout to monitor for the formation of kidney stones. It can also be used to monitor treatment to prevent stone formation. Customers who prefer a test with a single collection may also order a Random Urine Uric Acid Test. A Uric Acid Blood test is also available which is commonly ordered for people who have symptoms of gout or are undergoing cancer treatment which may put them at risk for increased uric acid levels.
Turnaround for this uric acid lab test is typically 1-2 business days.
