$57
In certain instances, the body makes antibodies that can attack the thyroid gland, leading to chronic inflammation causing it to be dysfunctional. The thyroid gland is responsible for the production and release of two principal hormones called T3 and T4. These hormones are responsible for the regulation of metabolism and energy production. When there are antibodies against the thyroid, it can affect the level of these hormones in the blood, leading to disease. Thyroid peroxidase is an enzyme needed to make thyroid hormones. Thyroid peroxidase Antibodies test is done for the presence of Graves disease or Hashimoto thyroiditis.
