Sjogrens syndrome is an autoimmune disease which is characterized by the production of antibodies which attack the the tissues and glands that produce moisture in the body, such as saliva and tear glands. There are many antibodies that can be checked to confirm the diagnosis of Sjogrens Syndrome. Anti SS-B antibodies (also known as anti-La antibodies) are commonly checked in case of autoimmune disease symptoms. This antibody is present in up tp 60% of people with Sjogrens and about 10% of people with systemic lupus erythematosus. This test is used in combination with other antibodies to make the diagnosis.
