QuantiFERON-TB Blood Test

This blood test is an accurate way to test tuberculosis, a dangerous bacterial disease.

Tuberculosis is a dangerous bacterial disease that typically affects the lungs. It is difficult to test for active or latent TB disease, as it requires a Mantoux skin test which causes a reaction to the TB antibodies. This test requires multiple visits to the doctor and is not ideal. The introduction of the QuantiFERON-TB blood test has made testing for TB much easier. This blood test is much more accurate than the skin test which can give false positives if vaccinated against TB.

This test is performed in following conditions such as:

• Coughing that lasts three or more weeks
• Coughing up blood
• Chest pain
• Unintentional weight loss
• Fatigue
• Fever
• Night sweats
• Loss of appetite
