Lead is a soft metal element that occurs naturally in the environment in rocks, soil and coal. Even in small amounts, lead is potentially dangerous to the body, causing damage to the brain, organs and nervous system. In the past, many paints, pipes and other household products contained lead, which has since been limited by law. Even so, there is still the possibility of exposure to lead. This lead profile test measures lead and other things like zinc protoporphyrin in order to aid in the diagnosis of lead poisoning.
