Latex is a type of compound that is used as an ingredient in rubber products. Latex allergy is one of the common allergies and occurs when body reacts to some of the compounds that are found in latex. The allergic reaction occurs due to contact with latex or ingestion of things with compounds similar to latex, like avocado. This blood test measures the amount of IgE antibodies in the blood and is ordered after having been exposed to some latex-containing product and exhibiting any of the symptoms that accompany a latex allergy.
