The Insulin Diabetes Antibodies lab test is used to detect the presence of insulin diabetes antibodies in the blood in order to establish which type of diabetes a person has.

Insulin is a very important hormone that helps in the regulation of blood glucose levels. Insulin is produced by the beta-cells of the pancreas. It helps to transport glucose into cells in order to be used as a source of energy. It also plays a role in the metabolism of lipids. A decrease in ability for the body to produce insulin is call diabetes. This is a serious disease that can lead to kidney and heart damage, vasculopathy and neuropathy and eventually death. There are 2 different types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which antibodies attack the cells of the pancreas which produce insulin. This lab test is used to detect the presence of these insulin diabetes antibodies in the blood in order to establish which type of diabetes a person has.
