Human T-lymphocyte virus (HTLV) is a virus that is associated with rare disorders and diseases of the T-lymphocytes. T-lymphocytes are part of the body’s immune system. It is spread via infected body fluids. This virus can contribute to the formation of lymphoma, leukemia, uveitis and other inflammatory conditions. The test measures the presence of antibodies to both strain 1 and 2 in the blood. Usually both strains are tested since they cannot be clinically differentiated. Depending on which antibodies are present and positive, it can indicate current, recent or past infection and whether there is antibodies to indicate immunity against the virus.
This test is performed in following conditions such as:
• Night sweats
• Fatigue
• Enlarged lymph nodes
• Weakness in the lower limbs
• Muscle spasms and contractions
• Urinary, bowel, and sexual dysfunction
