Hepatitis is a form of liver inflammation and enlargement which can lead to cirrhosis, liver failure and liver cancer. There are many tests that can be used to test for hepatitis B. HBV PCR test measures the amount of HBV genetic material in the blood. This lab test is performed in the early stages of the infection or soon after possible exposure since viral DNA is present in the blood earlier than antibodies. This lab test is a quantitative test, meaning that a numerical value is given.
