Quest Diagnostics Test Code: 6399
A complete blood count is used as a screening test for various disease states including anemia, leukemia and inflammatory processes.
A complete blood count (CBC) is a general test to get an overview of all the constituents that make up plasma. This include red and white blood cells and platelets. Most of these components are produced in the bone marrow, and testing for it can point to a wide variety of diseases. This serves as the starting point to determine when more specific and expensive testing is needed. A differential gives an evaluation of the state of white and red blood cells and whether these are increased, healthy or normal. This test is part of standard screening when a patient comes in with a general medical complaint.
This test is performed in following conditions such as:
• General medical complaint
• Routine medical examination test
• Anaemia
• Signs and symptoms of disease related to white blood cells
• Frequent bruising and bleeding disorders
• Patient receiving chemotherapy
