Cardio IQ Lipoprotein Fractionation
A Cardio IQ lipoprotein fractionation test is a panel of tests that provides information on a person cholesterol status and cardiovascular risk. There is a correlation between increased risk of premature heart disease with decreasing size of LDL particles. Ion mobility offers the only direct measurement of lipoprotein particle size and concentration for each lipoprotein from HDL3 to large VLDL.
A Cardio IQ lipoprotein fractionation test is a panel of tests that provides information on a person cholesterol status and cardiovascular risk which is more in depth than a lipid panel test. Things that are measures are low-density and high-density lipoproteins. The low-density lipoprotein is a type of cholesterol found in the body. This has frequently been considered the “bad” type of cholesterol as it is involved in the disease processes associated with atherosclerosis which inevitably leads to heart disease and cerebrovascular accidents. This test measures the levels of this cholesterol in the blood in order to determine the cardiovascular risk of the patient and to establish the need for statin therapy.
This test is performed in following conditions such as:
• Cigarette smoking
• Being overweight or obese
• Unhealthy diet
• Increasing age (men above 45)
• High blood pressure
• Family history of heart disease
• Current heart disease
Fasting is preferred but not required.
Estimated Time Taken
Turnaround time for this test is typically 3-6 business days.
