Quest Diagnostics Test Code: 11313

This test measures Calcium levels in a 24-hour urine sample. Calcium is a mineral which contributes to healthy bones and teeth as well as other functions including the nervous system, heart, and muscles. Measuring the calcium levels being passed from the body in urine can help determine if a person has an excess or deficiency.

Low calcium levels can be caused by a dietary deficiency, malabsorption disorders, issues with the parathyroid gland, and loss of bone density. Higher than normal levels of calcium in the urine can be a sign of kidney stones, formed from excess calcium and minerals building up in the kidneys. Common symptoms of kidney stones include back pain, abdominal pain, blood in the urine, nausea and frequent urination.

A calcium urine test is sometimes ordered with related tests such as a Parathyroid Hormone or Vitamin D. A Blood Calcium test is also available.

Turnaround for this test is typically 1-2 business days.
