Apolipoprotein Assessment Ratio
$109
The Apolipoprotein Assessment measures both Apolipoprotein A-1 (APO A-1) and Apolipoprotein B (APO B) as well as proving the ratio between them. APO B and A-1 are proteins which are involved in the body’s process of transporting and metabolizing lipids. Cholesterol, an important factor in heart health, is determined by several types of lipids. APO A-1 is the main component of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), known as the good cholesterol. APO B is the main component of low-density lipoprotein (LDL), known as the bad cholesterol. Measuring APO A-1 and B and the ratio between them can help assess a person’s risk of heart disease or monitor treatment for high cholesterol.
An Apolipoprotein Assessment is sometimes ordered when a person has a family history of high cholesterol or heart disease. It may also be done to help determine the cause of high cholesterol. Apolipoprotein testing may be ordered along with other tests such as a Lipid Panel.
